The Travelling Inventor
When I was little, I had the dream of becoming a travelling inventor. I would spend time tinkering with my toys, opening them up to see how they worked. I would combine them to make new ones, and if that didn’t work, I had my LEGO sets to build whatever was on my mind. I would go and “explore” ancient lands and uncharted territories (like the jungles of my mom’s balcony or the desert dunes of my backyard) to bring back stories of what I found. My grandma loved hearing about those.
Thanks to my dream, I made some of my best memories from my childhood. Like when I created a card game that went viral in my school because I just wanted to play something new. Or the time when I got out of writing an essay by making a 2D video game about philosophy instead (which got the most unlikely fans).
As I grew older, my inner travelling inventor would take me out into the world. Going on road trips, night outs, and adventures with my friends. I would gamify any situation just for the sake of it. To this day, we still laugh remembering some of the most ridiculous moments and stories that came from those.
What was the force behind the dream? New things. To create and experience. I knew early on that creating was in my DNA, and ever since then, I have chased the opportunity to invent something meaningful for others. That was my calling.
To see them love it as much as I love it, and feel it bring joy to them, drove me to great lengths: to create with conviction over any obstacle. I firmly believe that nothing is impossible and that is best summarized by the words I say when contemplating an idea: “Why not?”
Naturally, I was drawn to User Experience. A discipline where I could solve problems, create things to experience, and make others feel something new and meaningful.
Today, after more than a decade of work, I am still driven to create with the same fire I discovered long ago. What happened to the travelling inventor? Well, I am proud to say that the dream is very much alive.
I still travel, but now it is with the family I formed. I travel to find inspiration and to feed my curiosity. To share joy and stories. I’m still inventing. Through my work and my life as an Experience Designer & Strategist, I create opportunities for new things to happen. I love to do it in ways that bring more to people’s lives. I have sharpened my knowledge and skills, but I still have a long road ahead. There is always more to learn and discover.
I appreciate your interest in my very summarized life story. I am curious to know what brought you here, so let’s talk, share stories, and create something new. Why not?
